Giving Thanks

First off I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope more than anything that you are taking a well-deserved break from work, spending time with friends, family, and loved ones.

The holiday spirit has inspired me to write this brief post on my favorite subject: gratitude!

I’ve touched on this topic before in a few of my posts, but will reiterate the fact that my daily gratitude practice is the cornerstone of my spirituality.

Furthermore, the simple act of incorporating real appreciation into each day has literally changed my life.

I’d like to ask everyone to play along today and tell me what you’re most grateful for in the Comments below, but first I’ll share some of mine with you…

3 Things I am grateful for right now:

1) My health

Like so many other things in life, we take our health for granted far too often.  This becomes most evident when for some reason we lose our health, or something goes even slightly wrong.  So I try to appreciate things like my healthy lungs and the ability to breath clean air; having legs that allow me to walk, run, and jump; and having five working senses.

I understand that your health may not be perfect – mine certainly is not.  But the fact that you’re able to read and comprehend this blog right now means you have at least a few things to appreciate in this area.

And if nothing else, you and I can both be thankful that we woke up this morning, since many others did not (note: if this point does not apply, please stop reading immediately, and seek professional assistance).

2) My friends & Family

It is true that we don’t get to choose our family.  And I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes our relatives can be royal pains in the ass.  But it’s also true that we only get one family, and so it’s up to us to make the most of it.

In the last year or so as my morality continues to rear its ugly head more and more, my priorities have shifted quite a bit.

My parents are not getting any younger and I feel extremely blessed to have them both on this Earth still.  So it’s my commitment to see them as much as I reasonably can (given the logistical nightmare of having to traverse the entire country each time I do so…Mom = NJ; Dad = FL; Me = SoCal).

As for my friends, I can probably count the real ones on one hand (you know, those that can be counted on when the proverbial shit hits the fan).  But friendship is an area where quality over quantity is really applicable.

True friends are hard to come by and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.  They have been with me through the up’s and down’s, and continue to inspire me to grow and thrive as a person.

And last but not least, I truly can not express my gratitude enough for…

3) You!

I wholeheartedly appreciate every person that takes the time to read this blog.

After all, you are the reason I am here!  Sure, I love to write, and this does provide me with a creative outlet.  But at the end of the day, I am here to help.  So without you, none of this would be possible.  And for that reason, I am so very grateful.

My #1 goal here is to provide you with as much value as I can; my only request is that you try to pay it forward in return.
